Dinner last night was partly a group effort, as one of the cooks had equipment issues and was delayed. Flynn, the other cool, rolled onto camp and went right to work cooking a great flavored rice dish (see photo). Chicken, peas, carrots and salad rounded out the menu. So for concerned spouses, significant others and mothers, yes, we are eating our veggies.
Mitch drove us to the Lions Club pool for showers. The Men's only had hot water, and the Women's only cold. Go figure.
We were serenaded by at least 5 coyotes last night.
On the road we wear a fluorescent triangle for safety. Some have been customized (see photo of Flynn's).
Today was 69 miles in 8 1/4+ hours. The evening was cool but it heated up to the 90s fast. At 10:30 a steady headwind of est. 5-15 mph kicked in and never stopped. So much for prevailing west winds! I drank the equivalent of 6 bottles of water and still felt like Melba toast. We ascended 1375 feet.
Agriculture rules here. We passed a cattle feed lot that uses solar panels for shade (see photo). Thousands of cattle on site.
We passed by Imperial Sand Dunes park (see sign). Met a man walking from San Diego to Maine, rolling what looked like a 3-wheel baby carriage (see photo).
To the northwest are the Chocolate Mountains, named for their dark brown color.
Mitch parked the van near the top of the hill by mile 40 and laid out fruit, cookies and water. Looked like a mirage from a distance. We needed the recharge big time!
We are in an RV park. Life is good - showers have hot and cold water, the beer is cold and it is starting to cool off.
"Fat Tire" beer is recommended.

Fun to see the photographs of your adventures. I can't imagine WALKING across the US. Riding a bike seems taxing enough.
