I took up riding in my late 50's and up until about 2 years go it was an on and off thing riding weekends during the warm months and taking the colder months off.  Now that I am retired I have the time to do a lot more and have joined the Valley Spokesmen Bicycle Touring Club, it gets me out several times a week.  As for history my wife Julie and I have ridden RAGBRAI, Bon Ton Roulet, Cycle Oregon, Bike Virginia all weeklong camping rides.  A cross country ride is one of my Bucket List items and since I'm not getting any younger, I figured this is the year to do it.  My training was coming along nicely until breaking my collar bone recently, so I suspect I will be riding sweep for most of the ride.  Looks like we have a very interesting group, I am looking forward to meeting everybody.  As somebody said "May you live in interesting times"  I suspect this will be one of them.

  2. So I know there are bicycles on this trip...are you all so hungry by the time you get to camp that all you can take pics of is the food (oh...and the beer!)?! It reminds me of the VS club mtg presentation of cycling in Singapore!! :) Hopefully, you will enjoy a TAILwind today, not a HEADwind! Pedal Safe & Swift Big Guy! Julie

  6. Sorry to hear the news. Hope you return home safe and your hand heals well. I guess you'll just have to schedule this again sometime. Can't take it off your Bucket List until it's done.
